As part of the Sustainability of Key Population HIV Services across Asia program (SKPA2) baseline assessment, a sustainability pulse check was developed and conducted online using Google Forms. The survey engaged a cross-section of key stakeholders from the four countries and responses have been received from 60 stakeholders. The survey was designed to support both baseline and end of project needs, and indicators can be disaggregated by country, objective and stakeholder group (governments, civil society organizations, key populations, and multilateral organisations.)

Data Visualization

Data collected was analyzed throughout the process, with fact-checking and verification occurring where required. Survey results were analyzed using R and Power BI for dashboard development. Dashboard results can be accessed online. https://www.afao.org.au/our-work/international-program/dashboard/ . The dashboard that I developed included an overview tab of who provided information as well as 5 tabs related to each of the objectives of the program. Data can be filtered by country and the type of stakeholder in the dashboard.

The raw data, data extraction, cleaning and R code is copyright of AFAO so unavailable to be published as open source.

Freedom in the World Data

Overview

Freedom in the World, Freedom House’s flagship publication, is the standard-setting comparative assessment of global political rights and civil liberties. Published annually since 1972, the survey ratings and narrative reports on 195 countries and 15 related and disputed territories are used by policymakers, the media, international corporations, civic activists, and human rights defenders.

The GAI measures changes in social acceptance to LGBT people and issues in 175 countries. The Global Acceptance Index (GAI) uses data from more than 2,750 surveys conducted over 30 years and provides each nation with a score of 0 to 10 to indicate their level of acceptance.
Using data from the GAI, I have analyzed and visualized the change of countries score in acceptance of LGBTI persons and issues between 2000 until 2021. A link is provided on GitHub with the reproducible code in R markdown using the R programming language. Additional geospatial visualizations are included in the ‘slide’ link such as the score for each country in 2021 and the most accepting 15 countries and bottom 15 least accepting countries in the world as of 2021.
